Buying an artwork

I am not fond of artworks but my niece buys paintings and sculpture when she has the money. The most recent sculpture she bought was a religious painting costing $2,000. It is big money for me but I know that an art connoisseur doesn't mind the cost as long as he can afford. Oh well, maybe my eyes and pocket are not fit for the arts but I respect the art lovers for their collection.

I have a friend who is really talented at drawing. He can recreate a large version of a photo image in stunning detail using pencils and maybe a few other tools. I, however, have never bought a painting/drawing/sculpture.

I think that buying artwork is for the rich only, it's quite an exorbitant hobby. I don't think that I would want to spend big money on artwork.
